The OFFICIAL CLANSRGAY! Counter-Strike Weapons Guide
by Josh and John Cable
All the weapons in Counter-Strike have a good purpose that is specific to them. You'll be happy to know that unlike buying a car, what you pay for is what you get. The better guns are always more expensive. Although the Para pretty much sucks.
Melee:
Gun: SEAL Knife 2000 (SOG Model 37)
Pet name: Knife
Good: It's a knife, it stabs. It has a fast regular fire and then a slow and more powerful alt fire.
Bad: You can't kill anyone with it. Don't even try. Unless you're some fucking total badass.
Pistols:
The pistol is always the secondary weapon. They're small and cheap, and they don't really do much. When a map starts up, these are what people are gonna be using to kill everyone with. If you're low on money, a pistol might just be a good idea.
Gun: Glock 18
Pet name: Glock
Good: Terrorists start with this, and it has 20 rounds per clip, along with a semi-auto and burst-fire option (toggled with alt fire). And the sound effect for it in beta 6 is cool.
Bad: This is the weakest gun in the entire game. With burst fire on it's really not that bad, but you'll be shooting all day at someone who has armor. Burst fire also tends to take accuracy down some.
Gun: USP Tactical .45 ACP
Pet name: USP
Good: CTs start with this one. It's silenced and it a little bit stronger than the glock, and it's pretty accurate.
Bad: It's still very weak, and it only holds 12 per clip.
Gun: Desert Eagle .50AE
Pet name: deagle; DE
Good: Very very strong. The most powerful pistol in CS pretty much. It's also very accurate. This is what you buy when you have almost no money.
Bad: Only 7 fucking bullets in each clip. Reload time is a bit slower than the other pistols. A very little bit. The rate of fire is also slower, because it's not a submachine gun of course.
Gun: Sig Sauer P-228
Pet name: Sig [although people call the sig rifle the "sig" also]; p228
Good: Inexpensive like any pistol, and it carries 13 per clip. It's not to shabby for power either.
Bad: Not unless you consider the above a negative. If you want more power, though, you'd want to consider the Desert Eagle instead.
Gun: Dual 96G Elite Berettas
Pet name: akimbo guns, dual guns, Berettas, "going akimbo"
Good: It's two pistols, and they look pretty awesome. And instead of 12 bullets or whatever, there's 30. And not bad damage, either. A T only weapon.
Bad: Not accurate (according to CS pre-beta7 knowledge, you couldn't shoot two guns at the same time, ever--however, you can, and it's possible to hit what's in front of you too) and reloading takes a very long time.
Gun: FN Five SeveN
Pet name: 57; fiveseven
Good: The CT alternative to the Berettas. This one holds 20 bullets instead of 30, but has just as fast of a rate of fire, and is also a bit stronger than the Berettas. Reloading is also much faster. Plus, it's a bit cheaper.
Bad: Just that it's not an automatic weapon, I guess. Only good for last resorts. Oh yeah, and it also looks GAYER than the Berettas. HAHA FUCKING GAY GUN FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!112
Shotguns:
Powerful spread but not really made for lightning quick attacks. These are close range weapons at best.
Gun: M3 Super 90 Combat
Pet name: Benelli; M3; shotty; just "shotgun" (or SHITGUN)
Good: It's a shotgun. You know what these do. The spread and power are very nice. Plus, it's quite cheap. A great close range weapon for you high pingers.
Bad: You reload shell by shell. Getting all 8 shells back in usually will get you killed in a massive firefight. Reload used to be very slow in the older betas, but it was sped up a bit. You might not want to use a shotgun for all of your battles.
Gun: Benelli XM1014
Pet name: auto shotgun; autoshotty; "the new shotgun"
Good: Just as strong as the regular shotgun, but the rate of fire is about 5 times faster. Reload rate is faster too.
Bad: You can very quickly use all the ammo inside one, since it not only holds 7 shells instead of 8, but spends them very very quickly. Also, be expected to pay a whole lot more for this gun than the regular shotgun.
SMGs (sub machine guns):
Now we're talking. The sub-machine gun is the one step below the hellfire and carnage of a giant piece of machinery known as a machine gun. These are made for carrying a fair sized clip that is more than enough to kill a whole gang of people.
Gun: H&K MP5-Navy
Pet name: MP5
Good: The leader in sub-machine guns. It's cheap, it's stronger than a pistol by far (except for the Desert Eagle), it's accurate as hell, and it has a very quick rate of fire. You can get a lot done with one of these.
Bad: But don't expect to kill anyone with anything less than a few shots with this. There's nothing really BAD about this gun at all. As a matter of fact, it might just be the best gun in the game. Unless the person you're shooting at has kevlar on.
Gun: Steyr Tactical Machine Pistol
Pet name: TMP
Good: Fast reload rate and rate of fire, silenced (always a plus I suppose) and is quite accurate even at full auto. This is a CT only weapon.
Bad: It's so weak that if you kill anyone with this gun, everyone will laugh.
Gun: Fabrique Nationale P90
Pet name: P90
Good: 50 damn bullet clip, and a very neat looking clip at that. It's also the strongest SMG, and not all that expensive. It's just one step down from the rifles.
Bad: Reloading actually takes a very long time, and this gun isn't very accurate on full auto. It's not really accurate at all. Plus, if you use this weapon, you're a P90 lamer. It's kind of like being a "jumping Quake fag." Except no one uses the P90 anymore, because it's no good.
Gun: Ingram Mac-10
Pet name: mac10
Good: Very very cheap. The terrorist-only answer to the TMP, except stronger than the TMP.
Bad: Accuracy goes down a bit, but burst fire cures that easily. It might be just as strong, but not as accurate. The rate of fire is a bit slower too.
Gun: H&K UMP .45
Pet name: UMP
Good: Nice power, only a couple hundred dollars more expensive than the MP5, and pretty accurate. It's like an automatic USP.
Bad: Slower rate of fire, and only 25 bullets per clip.
Rifles:
The long range weapon of choice. These go up in price from the SMGs for a very good reason. Most of these are also scoped. Meaning that you can extend the view. But they're also impossible to aim if you're moving.
Gun: Colt M4A1 Carbine
Pet name: m4a1; Carbine; colt
Good: CT only gun, so only CTs can enjoy this. It comes with a silencer that increses accuracy but decreaces power, the silencer is off by default. It's also accurate in general and pretty strong in general.
Bad: Not much. It's $3100. You're a T, then all you get is an...
Gun: AK-47
Pet name: You know what the pet name is already.
Good: Stronger than most anything. It's also cheap as hell. Cheapest rifle, pretty much. The first shot is always dead center of your crosshairs, and this weapon owns all at close range.
Bad: Shit, you better be right in front of who you're shooting at. The first shot from this is actually usually right on. But right after that one shot, it's not so great.
Gun: Sig Sauer SG-552 Commando
Pet name: Commando; Sig
Good: Very strong, very accurate, and it has a scope. Very nice. Also, this is now a terrorist only gun, since the Counter-Terrorists get the Aug.
Bad: It's a lot more expensive than the AK-47, but really because the AK is so cheap. This is mucho assault rifle. And it's not THAT accurate at full auto. Plus, CTs can't buy it anymore, so that's a bad FOR THEM, until they get their hands on the CT-only alternative. The worst part of this gun is that the b7 reload animation for this gun is terrible, just a total hack job.
Gun: Steyr Aug
Pet name: Aug
Good: As expensive as the others, and a single zoom scope, and very nice power. The CT answer to the Commando. A good assault rifle. Better, even!
Bad: The accuracy tends to go quickly and it reloads pretty slowly, because of that big wing that you have to toy with to get the clip out. Plus it's a bit more expensive than the Carbine. There's really not a lot to complain about. Other than the fact that it's a rifle.
Gun: Steyr Scout
Pet name: Steyr; Scout; Steyr Scout (you know?)
Good: It's very cheap and it carries the max zoom capabilities. This is not just a cheap "pea shooter." The whole idea is to give you the major zooming abilities of the next few sniper rifles but at about half the damn price. Plus, the bolt action is quite fast and it carries a whole lot of ammo. You won't need to use the amount that you're able to carry, really.
Bad: Not as strong as the major sniper rifles, at all. You won't really be getting ripped off though. However, seeing someone get killed by a Scout is almost so rare that when people see it, they laugh. That's because it takes an expert sniper (and perhaps even a low ping!) to properly use the Scout.
Gun: Arctic Warfare Magnum, Police Model
Pet name: AWP; "Fuck you, camping fag"; AWM (doesn't sound as cool as AWP though)
Good: One shot is all it takes. Double zoom lense for "extreme ranges" as they would say in the Opposing Force boot camp. Very nice. Reloading the clip is also pretty fast too.
Bad: You better make that one shot, because ammo count and bolt action rate are very slow, and when you reload that bolt your view goes out of the scope. Reload rate isn't really as fast as the scout, but oh well. This gun is also NOT cheap. It's about $4750. Plus the corners blocked out due to the added circle view, but I won't complain. But you know what, the new reload animation is just horrible. Fuck the awp.
Gun: H&K G3/SG1 Sniper Rifle (yup, "Sniper Rifle" is actually part of the gun's name)
Pet name: g3; SG1
Good: Terrorist only (that's not really good). This one carries more ammo and has no annoying bolt, i.e. it's a fully automatic sniper rifle. It even has the double zoom and all that.
Bad: It costs something like a million $'s and reloading takes much longer. Plus it's really about as strong as the TMP but not as accurate. It just sucks. Don't even buy a G3. You can't even buy a G3 in Counter Life. It's the most worthless gun. The only people you can shoot with this probably have AWPs instead, and will just kill you with one bullet the instant they see you.
Gun: SIG SG-550
Pet name: SG; sig sniper rifle; 550; "worthless"
Good: The CT-only alternative to the T's G3. Automatic rifle with a fast reload, and double zoom.
The automatic rifles just aren't strong enough compared to the AWP. Most of the time, people with AWPs just master it so much that by the time they fire a bullet, at least one person is dead. And then they just keep firing and firing. With this, you keep firing and firing, and then MAYBE someone MIGHT die.
Machine Guns:
Ooooo... heavy weaponry...
Gun: M249 PARA Light Machine Gun
Pet name: Para
Good: This muther ain't light. It's strong as hell and carries 100 FUCKING BULLETS IN EACH CLIP. How about that. You can carry 200 extra in spare.
Bad: You'll need a small fortune to buy this and you walk very slowly when you carry this. It's also not as strong as the AWP, and the rate of fire isn't really incredible. Plus, it starts going in every direction at full auto. Plus more, since it carries 100 rounds, reloading basically means attaching a large box to the side of the gun, and that takes a very long time. But man, if anyone gets in the way of this, even with full armor...
Grenades:
When you need an arc instead of a straight line. You aren't really able to carry much of these. And they actually aren't made to kill anyone.
Gren: Flash and Noise grenade
Pet name: Flashbang; FB
Good: Oh yes, they use these for real. Anyone who is near this is blinded and disoriented. Apparently this can also cause a little damage if it explodes right on someone. Throw one of these in, run away, then come back and kill anyone nearby.
Bad: You can blind yourself very easily and damage teammates with these, and that will definitely piss people off (so if you do that, then fuck you you fucking whigger, go listen to your fucking trendy fucking pussy bands, like Korn and Limp Bizkit). And you can only carry two. And some more, these won't really work if someone is ducked behind a box or is a large distance from the blast.
Gren: High Explosive grenade
Pet name: HE; gren; grenade; nade
Good: Soften up your enemies with these. They also take away a large chunk of armor too. Instead of turning a possibly hostile corner only to be gunned down by a group, throw one of these in their direction, AND LAUGH AT THEM.
Bad: You can only carry one of these. If you're not precise about where you throw this, it can easily bounce back to you and turn you into soup. Another questionable downside is the power--if the enemy has FULL armor, the blast won't take a substantial amount of armor and life away from them, and even without armor it won't instantly kill them unless it's a direct hit or they're already weakened. However, the grenade isn't supposed to be strong, because if it was then you'd have entire teams just buying grenades and blowing each other up, and the matches would be over in about twenty seconds. So don't complain about that.
Gren: Smoke Grenade
Pet name: Smoke; sg; "lag bomb"
Good: Provides cover for sneaking into guarded areas.
Bad: If your enemy has a fast computer, they'll probably have the high quality, semi-transparent smoke sprites on, which means they can see a little if someone's running around through that smoke. The smoke doesn't seem all that effective, most of the time you'll just get shot through it. God knows if they can see you or if they're cheating.
