This was a Quake 2 mod. Or rather, a TC. So this was probably in the making for several years. And after several years, no one apparently played their TC and decided that after so long, they had nothing worthwhile to release.
The idea of it was nice. Instead of running around linear levels shooting at everything that moved, there were NPCs to interact with, that even "talked." All the weapons had been replaced, you get some swords and magic powered items and stuff.
But I never got past the first level. The level design itself was so foul that I never finished it. Not even remotly. I had also gotten the impression on their site that THE CHARACTERS TALKED TO YOU. They don't. It's just text. All I ever got was a knife, and a bow which I ran out of ammo for immediatly.
Because the idea of the start is that you're in prison, you'd think that the game designers would want you to use stealth or something, and give you several chances to use it. Nope. Quite a few times, I opened a door to find about 20 armed guards behind it. I had a knife, and the knife is hard to use because you have to be moving to use it (if you can't figure out what the fuck that means, I don't blame you). Like Quake 2, you're pitted against giant swarms of stupid enemies. But as opposed to Quake 2, your weapons are totally underpowered. So when the game pits you against an army, you wonder what the fuck is going on. Are you supposed to kill all these guys or run away? And by running, all you're doing is backing yourself into another corner.
Add to the fact that all I did was fetch quests, and you have no reason to play this TC ever.
New textures, new enemies, new weapons, new theme, new models and animations and code. And still no new gameplay. Even for all the work that went into this mod, it's so fucking pointless that it's embarrassing. What's the fucking point of having a weapon that you can only use if you're turning left and right (literally how the first weapon works). Basically the game plays like a Quake 2 version of Shadowgate 64, without the puzzles. The later levels probably boasted a hundred different "hit the switch and run before the door closes" puzzles that have been dead tired and outdated since Doom 2.
You'd think that someone creative enough to actually write out a story and make an entire mod themed around a rich fantasy mideval battle-torn kingdom would actually have a clue about what it takes to make a game fun to play. Instead you'll spend most of your time figuring out why you can't actually use your dagger at the beginning, until two hours later when you actually figure out that they made it so you can only attack while moving and turning. This mod is fucking worthless, Josh is dumb and he is putting on weight because all he does is smoke pot like a fucking fat fucking FUCK, and Lewis Black isn't funny. *listens to a wav of Lewis Black* *stops* THIS IS JUST WHINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
